Okay, so, I’ve been playing soccer for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s a rough sport. I mean, you’re constantly running, kicking, and, well, sometimes colliding with other players. It’s all part of the game, but it definitely got me thinking about protecting myself, especially my teeth.

I started noticing some of my teammates wearing mouthguards, and it made sense. I mean, a stray elbow or a header gone wrong can really mess up your smile. So, I decided to look into it.
- First thing I did was ask around. Some guys on the team had some recommendations, and others, well, they just picked up whatever they found at the sports store.
- I did some digging online too. There’s a ton of info out there, but it’s kind of overwhelming. Different types, different brands, custom-fit versus boil-and-bite…it’s a lot to take in.
- I ended up going to a local sports shop to see what they had. The guy there was pretty helpful. He explained the different types of mouthguards – Type II, which you mold yourself, and Type III, which are custom-made by a dentist. He said the custom ones are the best, but they’re also the most expensive.
After weighing my options, I decided to go with a Type II mouthguard for now. It seemed like a good balance of protection and affordability. Plus, I could get it right away.
- The molding process was a bit tricky. You have to boil it, then bite down to get the right fit. It took a couple of tries, but I finally got it to where it felt comfortable and secure.
- The first time I wore it during a game, it felt a bit weird. But I got used to it pretty quickly. It’s like anything new, you just need to give it some time.
Now, I wear my mouthguard every time I play. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my teeth are protected. It’s like wearing a helmet for your teeth, you know? It acts as a shock absorber for my mouth. It’s easy to take in and out of the mouth and clean. I learned that it helps prevent injuries to teeth, lips, cheeks, tongue, and even jaw.
If you’re playing soccer, or any contact sport, I highly recommend getting a mouthguard. It’s a small investment that can save you a lot of pain and dental bills down the road. Trust me, your teeth will thank you!
