Alright, so yesterday I decided to tackle something a little different: a “Game of Thrones” themed crossword puzzle. Why? Well, I’m a huge fan of the series, and I thought it would be a fun way to test my knowledge and maybe learn a thing or two I’d forgotten. Plus, I’ve been itching to try my hand at creating something a bit more interactive.

First things first, I spent a good chunk of the morning brainstorming. I grabbed a notepad and started jotting down all the major characters, locations, events, and even some of the more obscure lore from the show. Seriously, my notepad looked like a madman’s ramblings – names like “Daenerys Targaryen,” “Winterfell,” “Red Wedding,” all mixed together in a chaotic mess. But hey, that’s how creativity works, right?
Next up was figuring out the actual grid. I didn’t want to go too crazy, so I opted for a 15×15 grid. Seemed like a decent size to pack in enough clues without making it impossible to solve. I actually used a free online crossword puzzle maker for this part. There are tons of them out there, and they make the process super easy. You just input your words and it automatically generates the grid.
Now came the real challenge: writing the clues! This was way harder than I initially thought. You can’t just write “Mother of Dragons” for Daenerys, that’s way too obvious. I had to get creative and come up with clues that were challenging but not so obscure that only George R.R. Martin himself could answer them. Think stuff like “Khaleesi’s title, breaker of chains” or “The Stark family’s ancestral home.” I tried to mix up the difficulty levels, so there were some easy ones mixed in with the brain-burners.
After I finished writing all the clues (which took way longer than I care to admit), I proofread everything like five times to make sure there were no typos or inconsistencies. I also had a friend of mine who’s also a “Game of Thrones” fanatic give it a test run to see if the difficulty level was right. Turns out, I had a few clues that were a little too tough, so I tweaked them a bit.
Finally, I exported the finished crossword as a PDF and shared it with a few other friends. The feedback was pretty positive, and it was cool to see people actually enjoying something I created. I’m even thinking of making more crosswords with different themes in the future. It was definitely a fun and rewarding project!
- Brainstorming: Jotting down names, places, events.
- Grid Creation: Used an online crossword maker (15×15 grid).
- Clue Writing: The hardest part! Had to be creative and challenging.
- Proofreading: Checked for typos and inconsistencies.
- Testing: Got a friend to test the difficulty level.
- Sharing: Shared the finished puzzle as a PDF.
So yeah, that’s pretty much how I made my “Game of Thrones” crossword puzzle. It was a fun little project that kept me entertained for a day or two. If you’re a fan of the series and enjoy puzzles, maybe give it a try yourself!
