So, I’ve been meaning to dig into the Federer-Djokovic rivalry for a while now. It’s one of the greatest in tennis, right? I wanted to see the numbers for myself, get a real feel for their head-to-head record.

I started by, you know, just hitting up the internet. I figured there must be tons of sites with this info, and I wasn’t wrong. I bounced around a few different sports pages and, honestly, a couple of Wikipedia articles. I wanted to make sure I was getting consistent data.
What I did next was pull up a simple spreadsheet. Nothing fancy, just something to keep track of the matches. I started jotting down the year, the tournament, the surface (grass, clay, hard court), and, of course, who won.
- Year: Kept things chronological.
- Tournament: Gave me context.
- Surface: Because it matters!
- Winner: The big one, obviously.
It took a bit of time. I mean, these guys have played a lot of matches. I went back and forth between a few sites, double-checking the results. Didn’t want to mess up the data.
Once I felt like I had a pretty complete record, I started doing some simple counts. How many times did Federer win? How many times did Djokovic win? How did they do on each surface?
The data entry itself was easy, but I noticed some differences in total matches played, so I checked some of the dedicated sports statistics webpages to get a better idea of which matches should be included or excluded.
My Findings:
So, after all that digging and organizing, it’s very clear to me. I had put together all of the match wins, loses, surface information, tournament, and other information to see the history of these two great players.
