Module V: Bloodborne Pathogen
Bloodborne pathogens are infectious materials in blood that can cause disease in humans including Hepatitis B and C, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Workers exposed to these pathogens risk serious health illness or death. The training is performed within the context of OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard which details what employers must do to protect workers whose jobs put them at reasonable risk of coming into contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials. Custodial personnel typically fall into this category.
The training focuses on the requirements for Employers as set forth by the Standard. Components include:
- Guidelines to establish an Exposure Control plan
- Overview of who is covered
- Blood/body fluid and related Viruses
- Preventative practices
- Blood/body fluid clean-up
- Labeling requirements
